LEXINGTON, S.C. — A young woman was killed in a crash Thursday morning after the vehicle she was riding in collided with another car near a busy intersection in Lexington. The accident happened around 7:30 a.m. near South Lake Drive and Interstate 20, according to the Lexington Police Department.
Investigators said the crash began when a Toyota exited I-20 at Exit 55 and suddenly veered across multiple lanes of traffic while coming down the off-ramp. At that moment, an Acura traveling along South Lake Drive struck the Toyota, causing a violent collision. Both vehicles were badly damaged, and emergency responders rushed to the scene to help the victims.
The passenger in the Toyota was transported to a local hospital but sadly died from her injuries shortly after arrival. On Thursday afternoon, Lexington County Coroner Margaret Fisher identified the victim as 22-year-old Trinity Jones. Fisher reported that Jones was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash, which may have contributed to the severity of her injuries.
Both drivers involved in the collision were also injured and taken to nearby hospitals for treatment. Fortunately, their injuries were described as non-life-threatening, and they are expected to recover. The names of the drivers have not been released, and police have not said if any charges will be filed in connection to the crash.
The scene of the accident required a large emergency response from multiple agencies. Assisting in the incident were the South Carolina Highway Patrol, Lexington County Sheriff’s Department, Attorney General’s Office, Bureau of Protective Services, Lexington County Coroner’s Office, Fire Services, and Lexington County EMS. Traffic in the area was slowed for hours as crews worked to clear the scene and investigate the crash.
The investigation remains ongoing as authorities continue to review what caused the Toyota to leave its lane. Officials have not yet said whether weather conditions, driver error, or mechanical problems played a role. Trinity Jones’ death is a painful reminder of the importance of wearing seatbelts and staying cautious while on the road. Police are urging all drivers and passengers to buckle up and drive attentively, especially during the busy morning commute.
