ROCK ISLAND COUNTY, Ill. — A deadly crash involving a semi-truck and a passenger vehicle on the afternoon of May 28 has taken the life of 49-year-old Tyson R. Stevens of Milan. The Rock Island County Coroner’s Office confirmed Stevens was the only person in the passenger car involved in the collision. The tragic accident happened near the Greater Quad City Auto Auction, leaving the community shaken.
Deputies were called to the 4300 block of 78th Avenue, also known as Indian Bluff Road, shortly after 4 p.m. Upon arriving at the scene, they found a severe crash between a semi-truck and a smaller passenger vehicle. While the truck driver escaped without injury, Stevens was pronounced dead at the scene. Emergency responders worked quickly, but unfortunately, the child’s life could not be saved.
An autopsy has been scheduled for May 30 to determine more details about the cause of death and the circumstances surrounding the crash. Investigators are still working to understand what led to the collision. At this time, no information has been released about whether mechanical failures, driver error, or traffic violations contributed to the accident.
The crash caused more than just vehicle damage. A nearby water main was broken during the impact, forcing a quick response from the Moline Public Works department to fix the break and avoid further problems for local residents and businesses. This added urgency to the emergency response efforts at the scene.
Multiple agencies came together to manage the accident. Fire departments from Coal Valley, Coyne Center, Blackhawk, Moline, East Moline, and Rock Island Arsenal were on site to provide assistance. The Illinois State Police and the Rock Island County Coroner’s Office were also involved in handling the investigation and recovery efforts, ensuring that all necessary steps were taken.
This tragic event reminds drivers of the dangers on the road, especially when sharing it with large commercial vehicles like semi-trucks. The community mourns the loss of Tyson R. Stevens and offers support to his family and friends. Officials urge everyone to stay alert and drive carefully, especially in areas where trucks and passenger vehicles travel together. The investigation continues, and updates will be shared as more information becomes available.
